Bed and Breakfast- Home away from Home

You have two choices when you travel on vacation to strange and foreign lands (like Nebraska). You can stay at cramp box-style hotel rooms, about the size of a dog pen. Or you can choose to stay in a quiet spacious house at a bed and breakfast. (Yes, I know there are nice hotels that give you lots of room. Yet the cost for one night is equal to two house payments). About 6 years ago, we found the best and only way to stay over night when visiting any city was to stay at a bed and breakfast. We always loved to visit Charleston but usually stayed on the outskirts in order to save money. In 1994, we decided to splurge since we were going to be there for an extended visit. We found the best deal that we could in the historic district at 36 Meeting Street. We parked our car when we arrived and did not get back in it until we got ready to leave. Everywhere we went we walked or rode the bikes that they supplied for us. I must admit that it was the most relaxing and enjoyable vacation I had ever had. Since that time, whenever we travel we choose to spend the extra dollars and pamper ourselves by staying at a bed and breakfast. One of the best places to start your B&B search is in a book entitled Bed and Breakfasts and Country Inns by Deborah Edwards Sakach. This book does not have a complete listing. It does not even have great pictures. What it does have is a buy one-night get one night free certificate. This certificate can be limited but we have been very pleased with the value. For this article, I decided to test the web sites to determine who would have the best database of bed and breakfasts. I chose two of my favorite cities: Savannah, GA and Charlottetown, PEI, Canada and entered them in the search at each different site. Below are the results of my little experiment. http://www.women.com/travel/places/innfi... is the site that offers the most returns for both cities. It gave information on twenty-four bed and breakfasts for Savannah and five for Charlottetown. Yet not all of these are links. Some of the sites are just phone numbers and prices. http://www.bbonline.com/ also returned twenty-four sites for Savannah (and these were all links). Yet this site did not list any sites for Prince Edward Island (even though they did have a few Canadian listings). Yet they did offer a link to http://www.bbcanada.com/ which offered nineteen sites for Charlottetown. It is also interesting to note that even though both sites list twenty-four bed and breakfast inns almost half of those listed on each site are different from the other site.
