The Bathroom Library or He's Got Magazines Coming Out the Wazoo!

Feb 1, 2000 - © Reginald Vickers

Last week I ever so eloquently proved my point that I do not like to read. Yet I have to admit that is not 100% true. There are times when you will find that I do read some things. I find that I usually read when I can perform a second task as well or when it leads to the performance of that task. For example, I like to eat. Therefore, I will find time to read menus. I get bored when I drive so I will get real close to someone's bumper just so I can read their personalized license plate or bumper stickers. But still there is one other task that allows me to read for the sure enjoyment.

If you look in my bathroom, you will find a choice of magazines that will put any library to shame. When I get my magazine, I will go through and color code the articles. This is not done by subject but by length. I feel that you can judge how good an article is by its brevity. If it is short enough to be read during ones stint doing one's bathroom business, then it is a good article. If the article looks like a half a page, I will code that article "blue", if the article is a full page, I mark it "green", and if it is two pages, I will mark it "red". If the article is three or more pages, I rip it out of the bindings so that I do not confuse my self and begin reading it. I usually rip the cover of the magazine off to reveal my coded index page, so I do not waste time with needless information.

So how do I afford to fill my box with all these colorful works of literature? Do you really need to ask? I shop online.

There are two main avenues of purchasing magazines: either you purchase a single issue or you buy a subscription (on the Internet there is a third- get the subscription for free). Usually when I make that single purchase it is because I have read everything in the house (including the cereal box nutrition panel) and I just need something else to look at (notice I did not say read). Even though most of my single-issue purchases are impulse buys made at the grocery store or gas station, if you want to make an informed choice then you will want to shop at
