Now This Is How You Holiday Shop!

At 4:38am on Friday morning my phone rang. I stumbled out of bed into the living room, knocking over Sofi's cage. I answered it with a drowsy "hello". On the other end of the line was Alvin the Chipmunk on caffeine. Actually it was Momma. I didn't catch all of her words except "Why aren't you awake...Picking you up in 45 minutes...running late...get there before the crowds...steel toed shoes...firecrackers." After she crunched an hour monologue into 4 minutes, I interrupted her. "Momma", (I must have sounded like Lurch waking from a drunken stupor), "I'm not going shopping today. I'm sleeping in and shopping on the Internet." I've never heard silence sound so loud before in my life. It was quieter than the time that Momma thought I said I wanted to dress up as a "Ukrainian show girl" (when what I had actually said was that my old clothes made me look like a Ukrainian show girl).

Momma started crying about how we had been doing this shopping tradition for 30 years and how it would be a shame to end it now. I felt rather guilty but I tried to explain all of the benefits of shopping online including not having to fight the crowds. She did not listen and went shopping without me. I went and made a pot of coffee since I was up and began my great shopping adventure.

My first step was to determine what Internet coupons I had available. Even though I had been saving the links to these for a long time I could have saved a little time by just going to the sources. You can sign up for these coupons at: CoolSavings,Direct Coupons, My Coupons. If you want to continue receiving discount information then you also need to sign up for the email group called Something4Nothing at http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/Somethi... .

http://savenow.8m.com/ is another excellent source of coupons. It is easy to navigate and lists numerous coupons that I used.

The biggest deciding factor on where to shop (for smaller ticket items) was which sites offered these coupons. I knew there would not be that much difference in price from one store to the next on CDs, videos, or software. Therefore, using a $10 coupon here or a $20 coupon there helped with my purchase. I counted that altogether I had collected over $430 in coupons! Most of these did not require a minimum purchase and some of these sites were also offering free shipping. I had $20 off at Buy.com, $10 off at Amazon, $20 off at Petopedia, and $10 off at dSports.
