They Want to Evict My Dad!

There is a petition going around my parent's neighborhood attempting to have them evicted. Now if you ever met my parents you would find this hard to believe. In 5 minutes you would know that they could never do anything so horrific to deserve this kind of treatment. If you met my mother, you would think that you had just met Aunt Bee. If you meet my father, you would think that you just met a cross between John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart. They are just good likable people. Even we kids like them. But in their neighborhood, they are looked upon as trouble. This petition reads as follows: We, the undersigned retired men of Green River Mountain Road in our own accord and in sound like mind (as sound as ours at this age can be), hereby want it to be known that we request that Mr. VL Vickers voluntarily move to a location that would keep him from being an embarrassment to his peers and other male individuals who have taken seriously the responsibility of being retired and who attempt to live by that standard. Mr. Vickers has been observed performing the following activities in the plain view of the signed persons and their spouses: Replacing his roof single handedly In two days, building a 5 foot high wall around his property without any assistance Rebuilding an engine in an old Firebird Opening the car door for his spouse Running 30 miles up the mountain in less than 5 hours, stopping only to paint someone's barn and change another person's flat tire These activities are an embarrassment to the rest of the male population (those retired and half his age) in this neighborhood and if he does not cease, the wives of said men would make them account for themselves about performing such duties or the lack thereof. This could be unhealthy to this population and interfere with more important details like fishing, hunting, and napping on hammocks. Yep, that's my father. No, his name is not Clark Kent. But sometimes he thinks he is. I will say that he is the Superman of fathers (you can read more about him in my article on Home Improvement). As we are just a few weeks away from Father's Day. I thought today would be a good day to honor fathers around the world. And the best I know, is to start right her with my dad. One thing I appreciate the most about my Father is his love for my mother. They are always cuddling, hugging, or kissing. When I was young, I would slip up in the middle of the night to get a few (or a box) Girl Scout cookies. From the kitchen, I could hear my parents as they kissed good night, praying for each one of us kids. That is one way that I knew his love went beyond my mother and to the whole family. He showed him love by his working to provide for us, his constant building and remodeling, his playing games with us, and even the time spent watching TV together. We'd go to movies together while waiting for my mother at a Tupperware party (she was a manager), or just sit in the car and listen to the Detroit Tigers. The best times in my childhood were just being with Dad.
