Auto Repair Made Easy - Shop the Internet and Call Larry© Reginald Vickers
Four years ago, I was living a discontented life searching for my macho image. So I sold my 4-door sedan and bought a new Monte Carlo. It had nothing to do with the fact that my favorite NASCAR driver, Joe Nemechek, drove one. It probably had more to do with the fact that my dad retired from GM and he would disown me if I owned anything else (And I I would look pretty cool driving it). A few months later, I discovered that it was not an adjustment to my macho image that would bring me contentment but a relationship with God. Even though my macho image wasn't worth the amount I was paying in car payments (the car payments were more than my house payment), I decided this would be my last new car. Today, we have 110,000 miles on our "new" car and it will be paid off in only one and a half years.
My goal in life is to keep our Monte Carlo on the road and in good condition. This car has to last us until electric cars become the new standard or they put a rail system through Brevard. Either should take 50 years or more. The problem with owning a "new" used car is the upkeep. Now I am not a mechanic. And cars do break. Thankfully I have found a mechanic in Larry. Larry is not a mechanic; he is a magician. When he tells me it will take 2 hours to fix something, it takes 15 minutes. He knows exactly what the car needs just by listening to it...over the phone. Best of all he knows how to fix it and where to get the parts. And guess what he uses to get his parts- the Internet. As great as Larry is, there is one thing I don't like about him. When he finishes a job, he always says, "Just pay me what it's worth." What it's worth! Let's see, he saved me $100/hour from a mechanic that takes two weeks to change a spark plug and always finds something else wrong with the car and therefore it takes two more weeks to fix that and in the mean time I have to rent a car to get back and forth to work which always breaks down and I have to get a tow truck to come and get me and have to take a taxi to the rental place where I find out they don't have anymore cars so I have to call around and find a car 30 miles a way and take a bus to go get that car. Hmmm! What's it worth. "Larry, do you take children?"
