Home Improvement for the Surfer© Reginald Vickers
My father is the king of home improvement. The house I grew up in started out as a 650 square feet ranch. When my parents sold it, my father had done so much remodeling and improvement that you could have placed that original house inside it seven times! I know that my father didn't originally plan to do so much work. You could tell that by the way it looked. Every time my dad ended one project, my mother had another one waiting for him to begin. They just kept adding on. When my parents would throw parties, dad had to supplies maps to everyone just to find the bathroom. It was a great house for hide and seek. The only problem was we never found little Ricky. He is probably still down in the basement somewhere. (Ricky was my escaped hamster.)
I remember when builders would come over and ask dad who did his work, he beamed so bright with pride that I always had to keep a pair of sunglasses around. "I did", he boasted with a smile. "I did it all by myself." Nobody could believe it. He spent more time on detail than Michelangelo did on the Sistine Chapel. That house means so much to me; not just because my father built so much of it but because he and my mother built a family there (putting up with two wayward sons and raising one perfect one who writes articles about Internet Shopping). I did not inherit my father's ability to build. My brother, the plumber, has those genes. He just finished building a two-story workshop. Even when I build a playhouse with Lincoln logs it crumbles to the ground. Therefore, I need all the help I can get. That means I have one of three options. I call my father, my brother, or check the Internet. Because of pride, normally, I start with the Internet. So you want to remodel and you really don't think you can do it yourself. You could always start with http://www.improvenet.com/ . Find yourself a contractor and don't worry about it. Here you can also find a designer, take a look at the products you might need, and learn more about your project. There is a remodeler's shop where you can find a lot of great resources for the do-it-yourselfer. My wife has banned me from using power tools. It might have something to do with my missing finger or it may be because of the large hole in the back bedroom that is covered by our Mickey Mouse cell. But if I were going to get power tools, I would check out the prices at http://www.contractorstools.com/ or http://www.coastaltool.com/. Go To Page: 1 2
