The Orient "Shopping" Express© Reginald Vickers
Our last stop on our trip around the world is the Orient. We once rented a condo above a sweet little old lady of Asian descent. She was always working in her flowers. After years of just saying hi and bye, she had me over for tea. When I first walked into her living room, it was like walking into a museum. There in her place was the most gorgeous Chinese artifacts you had ever seen. When I asked her about the pieces, she lowered her head and began to tell me a story. The story sounded vaguely familiar from those days of sleeping in history class. She had been married to the brother of the last emperor of China. It was a thrill to share in her experiences. From those stories I gained a new appreciation for Asian culture and Oriental art.

I hope that you have enjoyed these shopping jaunts around our virtual world as much as I have. I must confess that I have enjoyed them for selfish reasons - shopping to decorate our house. Let me explain. They say that you are supposed to have a certain motif when decorating your house. My motif is Worldwide. I admit that most of our house is some type of Americana. For example, as I look around I see art-deco dining room set in black and rose and a country style 1930 Hoosier cabinet decorated with red and white porcelain bowls. In one bedroom is Africa art on one wall, cartoon cells on the other, and film posters on the other; all with an English tutor look. The other bedroom has turn-of-the-century French art with early American furniture. Do you see where I'm coming from? This is how I justify my shopping trip to myself. Whatever I buy from these shopping trips around the world fits my motif. From the Aborigines' Didgeridoo, that sits in the corner of the living room, to the Moroccan rug in the hallway.
