Last week I began a new series called The Unique Shopper. This week we will rediscover the experience of browsing those quaint little shops in those quaint little towns finding quaint little gifts around our quaint little world. Yet with this adventure you don't have to worry about being bumped, airline strikes, or why all the crying babies have to be on one flight - yours. You don't have to deal with hotels with eight rooms and one bathroom (that served bean salad, bean and ham soup, bean au gratin, and chocolate bean pie for dinner). You will find that using the Internet to shop Worldwide not only lead to great savings, but also offers a luxury that only the wealthy could once afford (who else could take the time and money to fly around to all those quaint little towns shopping). For the next few weeks we will be looking at regional shopping experiences in different continents. So ladies and gentlemen, please fasten your seat belt as we shop the World Wide Web. This week we will shop in North America. Let me invite everyone over for dinner here in Western North Carolina as we begin our trip in my backyard atMast General Store. People who once came from miles just to shop here can now browse this historical establishment on the Web. Where else could you find "Goat Milk Soap" or "Squirrel Nut Zipper" candy? We will leave North Carolina and head up to Colonial Williamsburg. We spent some time there last year and not only is it a great place to visit (with all of its history), but it is a great place to shop. They offer many quality reproductions from the 18th century. When I think of quaint I think of New England, especially Vermont. One of the best shopping sites for that "Main Street feel" is can be found at Abbington Village - New England's Online Shopping Place. This is one of the most thorough web sites I have ever seen when it comes to the regional shopping experience. We take a trip across the border, into Ontario, and head to a unique little shop called the Great White Retail. This is an attractive shop because they have everything that you could never imagine. How about a Hovercraft? I use to love shopping at this place called "Crazy Joe's" in Toronto. But I can't find it on the Internet. Instead I found Halton Linen Co.. It's no Crazy Joe's but you're gonna to love this place.
