The Impossible becomes Possible: Shopping for Women

I love Christmas. That God showed His love by sending His Son to become our redeemer is my first and foremost reason for celebration. That blows me away. If you read last week's article you'll understand that my second reason of celebration is because of the person with whom I have had the privilege of sharing my life for the past 8 years. It is because of these two main reasons that I love Christmas and I love giving.

Of course my favorite person to give to is my wife. I have tried to make Christmas very special for her each year. A few years ago, I had finished all her Christmas shopping by December 12th. I had bought a lot of stuff. I numbered the items from 1 to 12 and put the numbers on a piece of paper. I then wrote the word, "Scrooge" on 12 more papers. Each day she would get to draw out a piece of paper. She would then open up that gift. She would do this each day until she got a paper that said "Scrooge". If she got Scrooged, she would have to wait until Christmas to open up the rest. Sounded good to me. Well, my wife is pretty lucky. After opening up 6 gifts without getting a "Scrooge," we decided to wait until Christmas to open up the rest.

Every year, I look forward to buying gifts for my wife. I do not let her tell me what she wants. If she tells me, she doesn't get that. To me, that takes away the fun of buying presents. I love to surprise her. And normally it is, just not always good!

Secrets to Buying for the Ladies in Your Life

Rule 1- MAKE IT SPECIAL
I realize that I have someone in my life that is more precious than anything. I want her to know that. So each year I attempt to buy gifts that tell her so. Last year, Rex told me that he bought his wife a new refrigerator for Christmas. He said, "She loved it so much her mouth flew open and she just stared. I saw her wipe a tear from her eye." Well, this year Rex won't have to worry about it. Thelma ran off with the Orkin man.

Rule 2- MAKE SURE IT IS FOR HER AND NOT SOMETHING YOU'LL BENEFIT FROM
Gary said that last year he bought his wife a gun case for Christmas (these are not people I hang out with, they're just relatives). I asked him why. He said, "Well, she kept telling me to quit leaving them guns laying all around the house 'cause she couldn't clean around them. So I bought her a gun case so she wouldn't have to worry about them. I bought her a new vacuum for her birthday." That was the last time I talked with Gary. I didn't know Lucy was such a good shot.
