Obviously everything I write is a matter of opinion. Have you every saved a webpage, then go back to read it. While reading the saved webpage you decided to return to the site. You're online so you try the link contained within the document but they don't work. Why? Because they are setup as relative links. Let me explain - the link is relative to the position you are within the site, it speeds up the process when clicking a button. An example would be a link such as ....advertising/index.shtml. Now an absolute address would be something such as http://www.pertinent.com/advertising/ind... As you can see the latter will make more sense to your local computer and thus will be executed. The former will give you the error, "make sure the path or internet address is correct."
Confused yet? By using a relative link a person can save a webpage from your site but cannot return to use your site. By using an absolute link they can access your site even after they have saved it on their computer. They can ABSOLUTELY use the links to your site from anywhere. What does this have to do with promotion? Pretend I've visited your site and I've saved one of your webpages to my computer for perusal later. Much later. While reading your wonderful content I may be inclined to return to your site and ultimately buy what you have to offer. I can click on any link in this saved document and immediately return to your site. Go To Page: 1
