I'm working with one particular client who I know is very happy with the results of my internet marketing. The only problem I have is making him understand that the internet waits for no one. He is in a wonderful position to control his area of expertise online. I just need to make him understand where he stands online but sometimes I fall short because his focus has always been in the non-digital world. Here are some of the tools and ideas I use when developing and monitoring my monthly online strategies.
1) Where is your site ranked in search engines for the specific phrases that you think a prospective customer would use to find your site? You should monitor your rankings because they change daily and sometimes hourly. Today you are #3 and tomorrow you may be #120. Review your position on the popular search engines. http://www.yahoo.com http://www.altavista.com http://www.hotbot.com http://www.google.com http://www.excite.com http://www.lycos.com http://www.magellan.com http://www.goto.com (Pay Per Click - that's another article) 2) Who is linking to your site? Google gives a higher ranking to sites with many quality links to it from popular sites. Check your link popularity for Infoseek, Altavista, and Hotbot at the following link - http://www.linkpopularity.com/ 2) Who is linking to your competition? If you know who likes your competition you can go right to the source to persuade otherwise. How you persuade them to link to your site is left to your discretion. Once again use the following site - http://www.linkpopularity.com/ 3) What is your competition doing to persuade people to buy from them? What are they doing to drive traffic to their site? Sign up for their newsletter, review their website monthly, check to see what words they've chosen to buy in a particular search engine or directory. Try some common search terms in Goto.com to see IF your competition has used this search engine to draw traffic to their site. You'll have all you need to know about them. 4) How many people visit your site, what geographic area and what time of day is your site most active? With this information you can determine which time of day is best for updating your site, which search engines and directories work best for you and which do not - determined by the absence of the name in your log files. 5) Is your competition in the news and for what reason? Maybe it's time you decide whether the media is important to you or not. Maybe this article can persuade you. http://www.pertinent.com/pertinfo/intern... Go To Page: 1 2
