This article ties in with my path to internet IPO.

Even though a person comes to your site and enjoys what they see, there is no guarantee that they will return. Outside of changing your content on a regular basis, getting them to return can be a difficult task. You can use other ideas such as providing a treasure trove of informational reports that they can download for free and also contest or free product giveaways. In my opinion there is no better way to stay in contact with people than offering them the ability to have your message delivered to them on a periodic basis. Therefore, you must capture their email address and add them to your mailing list. Use this list as a way to follow up, send updates of your website developments or sell your products and/or services.

Here are some simple tips that can help in persuading your website visitors to leave their email address.

1) Tell them about your list upfront on the homepage and every other page on your site.

2) What's in it for them?

3) How often will you publish your newsletter?

4) Let them know you offer free reports, contests or free samples of products or services.

5) Follow-up with anyone who downloads your free report. When you contact them is left to your discretion. Contacting a person too soon can ruin your chances of persuading them to be on your list.

6) Tell them to pass on your newsletter to a friend that may be interested in your information.

7) Offer your existing customer base the opportunity to receive information through email. You must let them know that it is more convenient, faster and will eventually result in more savings for them.
