Creative Process in Oil Painting

Multiple Projects
Finally, when I put myself to work on oil painting projects, I make sure that I have at least three going at once. I do this because it is rare that after working on one painting that my creative process is all tapped out for the day. You may have noticed in your own endeavors, being that oil colours take so long to dry, that you are only able to accomplish so much in one sitting with an oil painting. Especially in the beginning stages of a painting where the underpaintings are completed so fast, you will find yourself with plenty of creativity for another project. You may even realize that you have just barely tapped into a creative process that could last all day. When you already have another project ready to be worked on, it’s just a matter of moving over and continuing the creative flow.

Dedication
So why not turn over a new leaf and dedicate yourself to getting your creative process in shape? Write and sketch for at least 30 minutes each day. Eventually you'll get down to some really good inspiration for a few oil painting projects. Set up at least three and paint everyday. When you finish one, be sure to set up another so that you have three going at once. Let the creative process overflow!
