In the middle of Columbus, there's a park that's always populated. With green people. (Hmmm...I guess this would have made a good St. Patrick's Day topic, eh? Ah well...)
No, this isn't a joke. Allow me to explain. Sculptor James T. Mason has recreated the beautiful A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte painting by Georges Seurat. (I'm told the painting is post-impressionistic. I'm no art critic; I just call it "beautiful." You can send a free postcard of the painting and learn more about the artist at: http://www.interesting.com/artist/Seurat... The interesting thing about Mason's interpretation is that he used topiaries as his sculpting medium. Hence, the park is always full of... green people. See, I told you this wasn't a joke. Admission to the park is free. You can visit virtually and see the tree people at http://www.topiarygarden.org/ While you're at the site, you might want to download a coloring-book version of the painting, along with a character guide so you can properly introduce yourself to the 54 people (and assorted dogs and monkeys) when you visit the park. This Organization is Really Pumped Up I grew up in Columbus, less than 10 miles away from the IBAC. Had I known how close I was to these folks, I would have at least stopped by. The IBAC, or International Balloon Arts Convention, takes hot air pretty seriously. They even certify people--after no small amount of training, mind you--as Balloon Arts Professionals. Oh, how I'd love to tell you that's abbreviated "BAP!" Actually, after completing the course and passing the test, these folks are officially CBAs, or Certified Balloon Artists. Great examples of their work can be found at http://www.ibaconline.org/ Go To Page: 1
