Oakstock: Get the T-Shirt
In little Danville, Innkeepers Ian and Yvonne Martin are planning a big party. What: The Oakstock Music Festival (the Martins' answer to Woodstock) When: July 28, 2001 Where: The White Oak Inn, 29683 Walhonding Road, in Danville (a bit east of Mt. Vernon, off Rt. 62) Reservations: 740-599-6107 The "opening act" is a cookout, followed by The Blues Tones (the innkeepers' own blues band) and an open mike jam session. Reservations for the whole weekend, including dinners, breakfasts, and the commemorative Oakstock T-shirt, are $299 per couple; or attend the cookout and concert only for $25 per ticket. I haven't been there, but my guess is no one leaves hungry from the White Oak Inn. You can steal some of their recipes (like Apricot Scones, Apricot Rosemary Chicken, and Bumbleberry Crisp) at http://www.travelguides.com/bandb/recipe... Inn Keeping: a Murderous Business After the party, I suspect it'll be back to business as usual for the Martins. They say their guests simply die from their hospitality. Did they really say that? Well, no. Actually, what they advertise is the "Casablanca Murder Mystery" in two parts. Guests can stay for either or both nights; the plot is different, but the setting the same: At the onset of WWII, a group of misfits are gathered at Rick's Café Americain... as the threat of war comes marching in, spies are everywhere -- perhaps even in the room next to YOURS! Murder mystery weekend packages range from $189 (for one night/double room) to $429 (for two nights in the whirlpool room). New murders are in the planning stages, expected to begin January, 2002. Well, isn't the suspense just killing you?? Find out more about the inn and what the Martins have planned for their guests at http://www.whiteoakinn.com OH!
