Six Flags "Worlds of Adventure" opens this weekend, May 5th, with yet another new coaster - the park's sixth in four years! The newest, the X-Flight, is said to defy the laws of gravity. SixFlags' press release on the new coaster is two pages long, and I don't want to scare you, but ... here's how it works: Riders are seated backwards. Once trapped (er, I mean strapped) in, the coaster shoots them up a 115' hill, tips 'em back 30 degrees (hint: you're facing heaven now) and then tosses 'em like salad in a spinner, through eight "exhilarating loops, spins, and spiral-like twists." For those who dare, I suggest a light lunch.
Are the Animals of SeaWorld Still There? Marine life is alive and well in Aurora -- the former SeaWorld park -- but Shamu has left the building. A dolphin show will be held in Shamu's former theatre, instead. A "silly sea lion show" featuring the walruses and otters will also be on stage. The stingray interactive exhibit is still there - Six Flags' press release calls it a "sea life touch pool." No mention is made of the bird show or the dog & cat ("All Star Mutts") show. The shark exhibit remains intact. SeaWorld pass holders who renewed for the 2001 season before the big news in February were pleasantly surprised to learn via letter that their passes will be honored without a hitch, for the whole new park. As park-goers wait for the new place to open up, no one could be more anxious than the city officials of Aurora, Bainbridge, Solon and Streetsboro, who see the brunt of traffic along State Route 43. Adding to the traffic show this summer: Streetsboro has gone wild with more expansion along State Route 14. Due to open in the next three to six months are superstores Lowes, Home Depot, and Tops. Perhaps Six Flags should consider a new "Oasis" attraction, where guests are greeted with herbal teas, massages, relaxing aromatherapy, and really stiff drinks. After maneuvering through the great traffic maze, it may be just what park-goers are seeking. One-day admission to the park is $37.99 for adults, kids are ½ price. Season passes are available for $49.99 when purchased in a "family four pack." As a bonus, Six Flags Worlds of Adventure season passes also get you in to the other Six Flags parks, 18 in all, all over the world. For more information go to http://www.sixflags.com Go To Page: 1 2
