Engaging Ideas for Lovers in NE Ohio

There's no backing out up here!
Tap-tap. Tap-tap. TAP, TAP, TAP. Is that St. Valentine knocking on your subconscious? Has cupid's arrow has hit you dead center? With a THUNK? If it's time to pop the question or say your vows, here are three ideas to turn your oh-so-happy occasion into a story you'll love to tell ... and retell.

How Could Anyone Say 'No' to a Major-League Mascot?
Last Spring, friends of mine got engaged during an Indian's baseball game, and you can do the same. Call the Indian's customer service office at 216-420-4161 to set it up. Famous but slightly clumsy mascot Slider will come find you and your intended in your seats at a prearranged time during the game. Slider will bring a dozen roses and the rest is up to you two. The event will be broadcast LIVE on the Jumbotron during the game for all to see. You'll get a tape of the whole thing to take home, so you can replay the moment again (and again, and again - just hope she says yes!).
Here's what the would-be groom had to say about popping the question at Jacobs Field: "I made sure Slider stood to the side. She likes him so much, I wanted it to be clear who was doing the proposing." She said yes (to her intended, that is; Slider is still single) and the couple plans to tie the knot in May.

Love Is in the Air
If you have high expectations for your marriage, you might find this a good way to get things off the ground: Call Chet Davis, hot-air balloon pilot and owner of America's Unknown Destinations, and let him do the talking. Davis and his balloon crew have hosted many an engagement - and quite a few wedding ceremonies - in the skies over Northeast Ohio. He does it up (of course) with roses for the bride-to-be and champagne for both. It costs a little more to charter an engagement balloon than it does to just take a ride, he explains, because "you want to use the whole balloon - you don't want to share it with strangers for this ride." America's Unknown Destinations can be reached at 330-673-4180, or launch yourself to their website at http://www.balloonfun.net.

Get Off to a Rockin' Start
Huey Lewis tells us "the heart of Rock-n-Roll is still beatin,' in Cleveland." If your heart is beating hard and your toes are tapping to the rhythm of love, consider getting hitched at the Rock &Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock Hall sees a lot more wedding receptions than it does ceremonies, but the staff is open to helping you say your vows with style. Call Lisa Essy, special events contact, at 216-781-7625 for information.
