Hot and Bothered? Good. Now you can chill out at a water park...or in a park.

New Trails to Follow
From ODNR comes this great news: On June 4, the Ohio Water Trails team designated the Kokosing River Water Trail as the first Ohio Water Trail in the state. What's a "Water Trail?"

Water Trails are designed "to promote the awareness of public paddling access by developing designated water trails on Ohio streams," according to ODNR. The water trails team is comprised of employees from various divisions within the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, plus representatives from the League of Ohio Sportsmen, the National Park Service, Ohio Parks and Recreation Association (Ohio Greenways), and the Ohio Smallmouth Alliance. The Kokosing, which flows through Knox and Coshocton counties, was designated as a scenic state river in 1984, thanks to its ecological diversity and active mammal and bird populations. Plus, more than seventy species of fish have been documented in its waters--diversity that bodes well for the watershed.

Make a Splash
King's Island has one. So does Cedar Point. And Geagua Lake. But I like the smaller waterparks. I like their smaller admission prices, smaller crowds, and shorter lines.

And I like that there's one not too far away rom just about anywhere in the sate. A partial list of Ohio's splashin' good time parks:
Dover Lake Water Park, Sagamore Hills (near Akron) http://www.doverlake.com/

Splash Zone, a Lorain County Metropark! http://www.loraincountymetroparks.com/sp...

Water Works, Cuyahoga Falls (near Akron) http://www.cityofcf.com/web2/index.asp?d...
HINT: Visit the website for a buy one/get one 1/2 off admission offer!!

Kalahari, Sandusky
Funny, huh? A waterpark named after a desert. Well, it's a tried and true concept (the first Kalahari opened in Wisconsin, and was a huge success-this one is likely to be, as well. Indoor water parks aren't new, but indoor surfing IS new--at least to me. Try it here!

Monsoon Lagoon, Sandusky http://www.monsoonlagoonwaterpark.com/in...
Also in Sandusky, but outdoors and taking a much smaller bite from your wallet. Monsoon Lagoon is home of the '$9.95 After 4-o'clock Plunge!'

Pymatuning Watersports, Williamstown (near Youngstown)

Splashdown, Jackson (near Cincinnati) http://www.splashdownohio.com/
Just $7.95 after 4pm-that's just about the price of a movie ticket!

None of these close enough to get you wet? Find a waterpark near you at http://www.waterparks.org/parkSearchResu...

Tips from a Water-Logged Mama
*If you must take a camera, pick up one of those cheap disposable ones that can get wet. (I say just forego the pics and have fun!)

The Water Trails sound like just the ticket to get more people out and about in Ohio. Hope the Park system there has a good publicity campaign so that Ohioans will get the news and be able to get out ...
