96 miles of paved trail
96 miles of paved trail 96 miles of paved trail... I just can't get it out of my head. A tandem-bike enthusiast I met from Dayton told me about her love of the Little Miami bike trail, and I think I might have to plan a cross-state trip just to see it for myself. 'Til then, check out the trail that runs, more or less, from Dayton to the south end of Columbus, at http://www.miamivalleytrails.org/miami.h... . It's actually three (or four?) trails that string together for the nearly 100-mile stretch, but 76 of those miles belong to the "Little Miami" trail itself. There are "park & ride" locations in Yellow Springs, Oldtown, Xenia, Spring Valley, Corwin, Caesar Creek State Canoe Access, Fort Ancient State Memorial, Morrow, Kings Mills (Glenn Island State Canoe Access), Warren/Hamilton County Line and Milford. The Little Miami is part of the greater Ohio-to-Erie trail. Once completed it will make a sweeping "S" across the state, from the northeast (Cuyahoga County) to southwest (Dayton); it's a beautiful swoop to hikers, bikers and equestrians (who, in many sections of the trail, will have their own parallel path to follow--making all travellers happy). The "Great Ohio Bicycle Adventure" of 2004 is over...start training now for GOBA 17, which will be held the week of June 18-25, 2005. The route will be announced here on November 22: http://www.goba.com/ Be A Good Cyclist: http://www.goodcyclist.org/Events/ohio.h... Check out these Ohio rides that support various, but all good, causes. My Favorite Bike Shop: Marty's, in Stow http://www.martysbikeshop.com/ There are bigger shops than Marty's, and there are shops with more convenient store hours, but there is no match for the genuine care customers get at Marty's. Case in point: I went in to buy a bike seat for my baby. "How old is the baby?" the owner asked. Six months, I said. The owner said I should wait until the baby was at least 12 months old, or able to face forward in a car seat. "The doc said it's OK," I said. "Go ask your doc again," the owner said. My doc checked the American Pediatric Academy guidelines, and guess what? The recommendation is that biking wait until baby is 12 months old. The owner delayed a $100+ sale, and at the same time reminded me that Marty's is the best bike store, anywhere. Go To Page: 1 2
