I met several authors at the annual Obsessive Compulsive Foundation conference in Chicago. One was Christian R, Komer, Psy.D. He liked The OCD Workbook that I coauthored with Bruce M. Hyman, Ph.D, and he recommends it to his patients. Dr. Komer had two books published this year. They are meant to supplement a good program of cognitive behavior therapy - such as the self-directed program in The OCD Workbook.

"I feel the courage of a lion charging fearlessly through a difficult situation," Dr. Christian Komer writes in The Obsessive Compulsive's Meditation Book. The next sentence took me off guard, "Earlier today I was wearing my chicken suit." Who can resist a book written by a courageous doctor wearing a chicken suit?

The cover is adorned with a chicken saying, "This book is not for chickens." The chicken is right. The Obsessive Compulsive's Meditation Book. is a book of short meditations designed to help us with OCD grow braver on our journey toward recovery.

Dr. Komer knows of what he writes. He knows what it is like to be a bit "chicken" about confronting obsessions and compulsions. You see, he is one of us. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder too. This is a great book to read in short spurts. Read a meditation, think about it, and put it to use over several days. Then read another meditation. When you've finished the book, you can start over.
