OCD and the Christian – A Website Reviewby Cherry Pedrick, RN copyright 2000 Robert's Obsessive Compulsive Web Site at http://brainphysics.com/ocd/ is a welcome addition to Internet information about Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. Robert tackles tough subjects, such as sexual obsessions and eating disorders. The message board and chat room provide opportunities for people to discuss their fears and support each other. At the top of Robert's website menu is "OCD and the Christian." http://brainphysics.com/ocd/ocdchristian... There you will find stories of Christians struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder, eating disorders and sexual obsessions. Robert explains how OCD is caused by problems in the brain, not by lack of will power, lack of discipline or sinfulness on the part of the person with OCD. We are not morally weak, lacking in faith or extra sinful. We simply happen to have a brain problem. Robert gives excellent advice to pastors, priests and Christian counselors who are trying to help people with obsessive-compulsive symptoms. He advises referring them to an expert on OCD. I would take his advice a bit further though. Offer supportive counseling and encouragement while the person is receiving help from a mental health professional. And pray for us who are fighting to break free from OCD. Next month I'll write more about spiritual support for people with OCD.
