St. Valentine's Day, the day of celebrating love, admiration and adoration of those special people in our lives. Why do we celebrate Valentine's Day? For some interesting, maybe even inspirational and/or historical facts and traditions visit Annie's Valentine's Day - History Page , or Annie's Valentine's -"What is Love" Page and History Channel's - History of Valentine's Day.

Grandchildren of all ages love to create and present their creations to the ones they truly admirer and cherish. With the use of computers and computer programs those creations can look store bought. But personally I enjoy the old fashioned way of using doilies, construction paper, ribbon and glitter. Sarah and I decide who the special Valentines are for and create each one individually. Usually there is a theme for each person, Papa likes fishing, Grammie likes teddy bears, Mommy likes kittens, Daddy likes sports, etc.

We make a list and add the theme of each Valentine message, then it is time to create Sarah's masterpieces of love and admiration. All the materials are set up on the table to make handmade cards, while creating Sarah thinks about how she wants to present the card, with a song, hiding it in a secret place, or just giving the card along with a hug and kiss. Sarah is also planning what red and white outfit to wear on Valentine's Day.

To make the cards Sarah cuts out heart shapes and stamps or glues pictures of the theme idea on card stock paper. For Papa her card might say "To the Best Papa on the Lake - the best Valentine catch for me," with a big fish on a hook. Mommy's might have a kitten hugging a heart, "You are my purr-fect Valentine." Daddy's might have pictures of all star sports players, "Daddy You Are My Valentine Super Star." Grammie's might have teddy bears and hearts, "Teddy Bears Hugs from my Heart." Sarah then embellishes each card with glitter pens outlining the words and hearts.

For added valentine surprises don't forget the treats, like heart shaped cookies, candies or cake. There are some really scrumptious recipes available at Kids Domain - Valentine's Recipe. I can't wait to try the Very Rocky Road Fudge and the Raspberry Chocolate Heart Tart. Besides making Valentines, there are many easy crafts for kids to make and give as Valentine gifts. Kids Domain - Craft Exchange Valentine Ideas is a great place to find something special to handcraft with your grandchild. Roses and other favorite flowers presented in person are always the perfect gift of loving expression.
