Cabin Fever Relief - Part 1
Take a walk outside around your house and scatter bread, cereal or crackers for the birds and critters living out in the cold. Have your grandchildren build their own snowman, when they are almost done, bring out the accessories, hat, scarf, mittens, broom and buttons. When the Snowman is finished, take pictures of your grandchildren hugging him. Then go inside and warm up with hot cocoa and cookies. Snow forts can be built with a plastic block form, just pack the snow in as hard as possible and keep making blocks, stacking and creating the snow fort. Snow castles can be built with sand toys and forms. An ice rink can be built by making a circle with a very long old hose, or lawn edging and filling the center with water. We've done it in the middle of the yard, one note be prepared for the messy muddy grass when the thaws come. In spring you will have to plant grass to restore your lawn. Snow ball wars are fun, just one simple rule - no hitting above the chest area. No one likes getting hit in the neck or face. You can also set up a target and have the grandkids practice there throwing for the upcoming baseball season. Have extra dry gloves and mittens handy to avoid frostbite. don't forget to freeze some snowballs for some unexpected fun in spring. Snow angels on fresh fallen snow, my all time favorite. Fall backwards into the snow, and wave your arms and legs in and out, get up very carefully. See - you are truly an angel. Another trick for kids, is to make one single trail, make tracks walking forward, stop and walk backwards placing your feet in the original footprints. The next person to follow the trail will wonder why the footprints end, where did that person go? Catching snowflakes on your tongue, I did this a child, my kids did it and now my graddaughter does it giggling the whole time. Last but not least take a nature walk, photograph anything you find interesting, snow covered trees, animal tracks, sunsets on a frozen pond or maybe a bird or squirrel. On a clear night go outside for a few minutes and look up, the stars are bright in the cold air and the constellations have moved due to the earth's rotation. Try to find Orion, Big
