Twelve Grand Days of Giving

© Deborah A Pringle

"On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me..." - a grand idea, give someone something every day for the twelve days of Christmas.

December 13 - Renew an old friendship - telephone or email an old friend you haven't seen in years and catch up on each other's lives.

December 14 - Surprise your Mailman (Letter Carrier} - with a card, tip and some homemade cookies. Wrap and leave your gift near the mailbox for the Letter Carrier to find when he/she delivers your holiday greetings.

December 15 - Visit an influential person who has been a positive force in your life, a father figure, a spiritual leader, a teacher and hand deliver a card expressing your graditude for their inspiration.

December 16 - Take a brisk walk around your neighborhood, greeting everyone you see with "Happy Holidays," and a smile.

December 17 - Spend sometime spoiling your pets, play with them, groom them or just cuddle with them.

December 18 - Surprise the Paperboy with a stocking filled with candy, along with a tip for his good service.

December 19 - Send a donation to a charity you believe in and truly wish to help.

December 20 - Pray for the less fortunate, wishing they receive something they need to keep them warm and healthy.

December 21 - Donate canned goods to a soup kitchen, if you are able to volunteer for a meal offer to do so.

December 22 - Send flowers anonymously to a nursing home or hospital for the patients and staff to enjoy.

December 23 - Take a box of dog bones to your local Animal Shelter. The Shelter's staff will distribute the treats.

December 24 - Early in the day place a wreath or flowers on a beloved ones resting place, reflecting on the holidays past and reminding yourself your beloved is carried in your heart always.

Each little gift you give of yourself, will come back to you in ways you will cherish. A smile from a lonely person, a dog wagging his tale, a child with wonder in their eyes, a friend who has missed you, too - are all possible when you give from your heart. The gift you give to yourself is one of Joy - knowing someone else's spirit was lifted by your kindness. A feeling of true Joy, one you embrace in your heart along with Hope and Love. You will not only know the meaning of the holidays but feel the overwhelming spirit it can bring.
