Holiday Preparations with My Grammie

Make a TO Do list early and check it twice. Be realistic about time, and schedule projects, completely finishing one before going on to the next. Help Your Family Have a Peaceful Holiday Season has some very practical suggestion for holiday planning. Plan one or two projects to do with your grandchildren when they visit or you visit them. Gather the supplies and decorations for each project ahead of time, putting the items in labeled individual bags or boxes. Keep a supply bin ready with glue, scissors, tape, markers, tacks, hooks and any other essential crafting tools. Have your holiday music ready to play, your grandchildren will enjoy singing along with you and the music while you do the holiday projects. For the lyrics to holiday songs visit Seasons Greetings Music

Decorating with grandchildren can be fun and stress free. The little ones can help decorate windows with cling ons and handmade snowflakes. They can also hang the stockings on preinstalled hooks, putting holiday stuffed animals in the stockings with their heads peeking out. If you have a spare corner, young children can place holiday toys, art and treasures, making their own special display. Dressing stuffed animals and dolls in holiday attire, placing a bulletin board or fiber board screen for a backdrop to show off their cards, pictures, and crafts, will allow the grandchildren to express their holiday spirit. Sarah has a Barbie doll house I made for her from a bookcase, for the holidays we have a 1' tree and decorate it with miniature ornaments, we use small beads strung on heavy thread for the garland. Suite101.com - Holiday Decorating on a Budget by L.C. Dumke CE Budget Decorating offers creative and frugal holiday ideas.

As for decorating the tree, hanging lights, and outside decor, let the grandchildren help, but keep safety in mind. Little ones shouldn't be climbing up higher then on a step stool to put up decorations. All the electrical lighting should be handle by adults. Older children can help set up mantels, tabletop and shelf displays. Little ones can take turns hanging ornaments on the tree. For stress free big jobs, plan to decorate the tree, the windows and other outdoor displays on different days. Everything does not have to be completed in one day. Holiday Decor - Outside Country Touches has some simply wonderful ideas for your front yard and porch.
