I've been having some poor luck with Internet Explorer 4.01 lately. After perusing the IE4 Browser newsgroup, I take it I'm not alone.
Before I go any further, let me stress go there for your IE4 problems! You can spend such an infinite amount of time searching the internet (including various magazine archives) trying to get information about a problem, when many newsgroup posters have oftentimes done much of the same research for you. This latest problem was easily found in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: "Open in New Window" Does Not Work in Internet Explorer. It had been working, ever since IE 4.0 was released, and through IE 4.1. Except, the solution didn't work, and as I was later informed by the Microsoft Web Response team, that article is specifically for Windows 95, and has nothing to do with Windows NT. Thanks! Before hitting the newsgroups (or really, the MS servers were so busy that I couldn't read them for days!), I tried searching the Net for any IE4 "bug" articles. I finally found a very relevant one: CNet's Builder.com had an article (by Charity Khan): Sleuthing the IE4.0 window bug whose suggestion was a copy of the Knowledge Base solution: re-register some DLLs in the Registry using the RUN command. The search engines also led me to another bug page for Internet Explorer, with a Registry fix listed under "IE Hyperlink Problem". I used that fix to no avail, as well. Finally, I decided to use Microsoft's Web Response to file a bug report (and request for help), then off to the newsgroups I went, only to find that the KB solution doesn't work for quite a few users (both Win95ers and NTers), nor do other solutions they'ed found, including
