One of the few "search sites" I list here is Microsoft's own NT Knowledge Base. The Knowledge Base is Microsoft's information repository for all its products, containing white papers, bug lists, bug reports, and even "how to articles" about Microsoft products. Oftentimes, if you're experiencing a problem with NT, the Knowledge Base is the first place you should search for information.
There are a few articles of particular interest to NT users:
Searching for Products
Besides the Knowledge Base, Microsoft maintains a database of software that is compatible with NT 4, which is excellent for helping you choose which products to evaluate for use on NT 4 and future versions of NT as well.
When it comes to GAMES, you can't go wrong by searching Dave's Games Under NT 4, which is a database of Windows 95 games that work/sort-of work/don't work under NT. If a game requires special attention to work, Dave includes the instructions you won't find on the manufacturer's web site.
When it comes to buying hardware, you should reference Microsoft's Hardware Compatibility Wizard, which is a searchable database of products based on the type of logo earned. Anything with a "PC97" rating should work fully on the current and future versions of NT, although you can broaden you search by requesting products that are merely compatible with NT, as well.
I would also check out the major device driver site, Paperbits, which is updated daily with new drivers for NT. Even if a product doesn't pop up in Microsoft's database, the manufacturer may have released a driver recently that could get the product up and running on your system.
Search Engines
BHS's Windows NT Resource Center, the atrociously huge NT site, has a new service called NT Seek, which bills itself as "the strictly NT search engine". Although BHS is huge, it does maintain an excellent list of NT related articles, and with NTSeek you can "mine" those articles for information you're interested in.
Unfortunately, whenever I use NTSeek, the "Next" button (as in "next page of search results") doesn't work. You can get around this somewhat by requesting 100 results per page, and using good queries. However, I hope they fix this bug soon!
Incidentally, there's a great new search engine called Northern Light that organizes your search results into folders by category (which include "Personal Web Pages", and also groups articles by URL if there are an inordinate amount of hits from one domain). I'm very fond of the results I get, versus Alta Vista and Hot Bot. Give it a try, bookmark it!
