...and get everything at once (cf : New Features Available in SP4 for features available only on the CD). The Order SP4 CD page gives you a phone number to place your order (800-370-8758), as well as an order part number for the 128-bit version of SP4 (236-01176). Cost is $14.95 + $5 shipping.

Where Else Can I Download SP4?

What About Uninstalling SP4?

You can uninstall back to SP3, as long as you opted to make the uninstall directory, by going to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel and selecting Service Pack 4. But with some caveats:

  • if you didn't have IE4 installed previously, you have to re-apply SP3 for cryptography to work.

  • if you ever have to reinstall SP3 again, you can't opt to replace some of the newer files left by SP4 when prompted to do so:

      Samsrv.dll
      Samlib.dll
      Lsasrv.dll
      Services.exe
      Msv1_0.dll, and
      Winlogon.exe

SP4 permenantly changes the database structure of SAM so that the older (SP3 and earlier) versions of these files will no longer work -- if you replace them with the older versions, you won't be able to log on anymore!

What about my Notebook?

There are plenty of notebook issues, of course: see the readme for specific makes and models of possible problem units, but basically any SystemSoft-supplied PC Card software should be updated to the latest version (post v3) before applying SP4, or your notebook will cease to function. Lovely.
