In the United States, we are taught world history as a method of studying the collage of cultures within our nation. Very few nations do this openly, but there is a degree of such. Even in the harshest of tyrannies (i.e. China). However, for some time now I have wondered why the latest insights to modern and ancient history have been very reveling in its honesty. I recall never being this interested in history? Let alone the immense information out there on the subject. Then I recalled my school years. The boring memorization of dates. The lethargic interest by my teachers. Furthermore, the apathetic textbooks. I began to realize that my new found interest was do to the fact there was something to be interested in! History out side the classroom is complete.
Even today the most recent textbooks, which fill our public schools, and universities, are lacking in Comprehensiveness. Think about it. The one thing over looked in history books is the concept of history its self. What does that truly say towards our venture to record everything? When mankind writes what he sees, is he actually recording history, or recording presumption?
For an example we should look at one the most basic historically philosophical books every written in Western civilization – Plato's 'Republic.' This book helps us study and break down the concept of what a political structure, such as the United States, is devised of... or, does it? I have been "taught" that the 'Republic' was a book, basically, describing the frailties of a Republic system. That Socrates was proving the faults of man when granted the openness of Free Will. Thank God I never listen to such senselessness!
Side note: It is beyond me how easily professional teachers, thinkers, professors, whatever; can ridicule something such as religion, and yet practice their manipulation with the same superiority.
