If you have been doing geneological research and have found a living relative in Norway that you were unaware of, why not write them an introductory letter? Below is a free template you can use for writing a letter to relatives in Norway. Simply paste this document into a Word file and replace the bracketed words with ones that apply to you.

Kjaere [name of person you are writing to],

[Your relative, for example: father] min var din [relationship to person you are writing to, for example: father's father.[Han/Hun] hettet [name of your relative] og var f¢dt i [year of this relative's birth] i [place of birth]. [Han/Hun] d¢de i [year of death].

Hilsen,

[Your signature]

The English translation would read something like this:

Dear Pippi,

My name is Ole Olay and I am writing you because I think we are related. I am doing genealogical research and have found a link between us. My father was your father's father. His name was Arne Lindstrom and was born in 1922 in Sandefjord. He died in 1977. He was married to Lise Ingstrom in 1955 and they had three children: Bugge Lindstrom, Hugge Lindstrom and Mugge Lindstrom. Mugge Lindstrom was born in 1960 and was married to Beate Humperdink.

Can you write and clarify if Mugge Linsdtrom is your father? I am looking forward to hearing from this part of the family.

Sincerely,

Ole Olay
