Former Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik in Minneapolis

Although the choice of Bondevik as speaker was by no means conservative, the rest of the schedule was traditional – a pattern criticized by the newer generation of Norwegian-Americans and Norwegians alike. Despite their conservatism, performances were fantastic, including traditional Norwegian folk dancing, music by the Minneapolis Hardanger fiddlers and men’s choral groups. Bondevik’s brother-in-law, Reverend Eyvind Skeie, also led the Mindekirken’s children’s choir in song.
