Are you for Bush or Kerry? and other Norwegian quizzes (III)

Continued from PART II.....

Just as personality quizzes can provide a sense of what is within normal range for a cultural inhabitant, information-oriented tests can define what it actually is that a savvy, if otherwise unremarkable, individual should be attuned to. The Norwegian quizzes below highlight various domains of knowledge, ranging from consumer know-how to medical mysteries.

Popular Culture

Awareness of popular culture, though usually not considered a skill of intellect, is actually a rather distinctive approach to understanding how "in-touch" an individual is with the world around them. They not only measure general cultural knowledge about Who's Who in fame and history, but also invite self-comparison, almost as if to typecast the individual into an easily recognizable role. "What is your handle?" they seem to ask, "Which of these people do you most resemble?"

Fashion, Consumerism, and Beauty>

Consumer products and self-presentation are other devices that can define who a person is within their own culture. Aprons and bikinis, for example, can serve as markers of entirely different lifestyle choices. Informed knowledge and practice surrounding these markers can also convey a great deal of information - is your makeup, for instance, expertly applied or rather clown-like? Are you a slave to fashion or very nearly oblivious to it?

Intelligence/Trivia tests

There are a fair number of people understandably preoccupied with how much they know, as if being able to quantify their stockpile of informational tidbits will somehow place them competitively on a bar graph measuring informedness. These quizzes, restricted in range, tend to be fact rather than form focused.
