A Northwest Wine Primer, Part 1


From there, things have just blossomed. While Joe Heitz was putting the finishing touches on his first bottling of Heitz Martha's Vineyard California Cabernet, these profs were playing host to the winemaker from Beaulieu Vineyards, Andre Tchelistcheff. They were looking for some sense of direction for their wines and Andre gave it to them when he tasted a Washington Gewurztraminer. Hardly an auspicious beginning for a wine region that would come to claim more tasting awards per vineyard acre than any other in the U.S.!
