Peter, Peter

And now for something completely different. Valenciano is snow white on the outside and deep orange inside. These pumpkins are rather eerie looking, making them a wonderfully spooky Halloween pumpkin. They are slightly ribbed, perfect for painting, and the flesh makes great pies.

Rich in vitamin A, pumpkins are healthy and store easily for a long time. Keep them in a cool dry spot for enjoyment all winter. Be sure to harvest pumpkins before the first hard frost, since they are not frost tolerant. Let your pumpkin vines wander charmingly throughout the garden. I find they even fit well into a cottage style garden, especially the mid to small-sized varieties. One good sturdy vine can be a real eye-catcher in the floral border. The large leaves and cheery fruits make a nice conversation piece.

Why not try growing your own pumpkins for pies, seeds, and decorations? Children especially love growing them. The seeds are large and easy for small fingers to handle when planting. You can find seeds for all the varieties mentioned here at either http://www.Johnnyseeds.com or http://www.superseeds.com. If you want to try growing your own prize-winning giant pumpkin, seek out Don Langevin's "How To Grow World Class Giant Pumpkins II" available from Johnny's.
