Trees in Tubs

If we want needled evergreens indoors, we need to use tropical species like the Norfolk Island pines that are native to a climate where it seldom freezes.

So, I settled for artificial evergreen boughs arranged in baskets on top of large dowels in the pots on my front steps. They give me the look I wanted and, with the snow falling on them as I write this, they look almost natural and I won't have to worry about their well being at all. There are many very good artificial evergreens that can be used in all kinds of containers. The bright side is - they don't need watering, feeding, pruning or spraying and they never outgrow the pot. Who needs that when the walk needs shoveling anyway?
