As the second part of my Spring Break series, I want to focus on how families can discover the beautiful beaches of Florida.
Daytona Beach, located on the central east coast, is 23 miles of white sand beaches that has a mild climate throughout the year. Daytona is also conveniently located within hours of other attractions including Walt Disney World, historic St. Augustine and Kennedy Space Center. The wide beach with its hard-packed sand allows visitors to drive on an 18-mile stretch during the day for a small fee. All beach equipment is available for rental including umbrellas, chairs and floats; and sporting equipment is also available for sailing, surfing and jet skiing. The Boardwalk amusement park features miniature golf and arcades. Just a short walk from the ocean, the Halifax River or Intracoastal waterway also provides numerous activities including power boats. Visitors can go deep-sea fishing on local charters for as little as $25 per adult to catch red snapper, grouper and other native fish. With over 400 hotels and motels, there are rooms to fit every taste and budget in the area, including oceanview condominiums to local campgrounds. For more information on the Daytona Beach Area, contact Daytona Beach Area Convention & Visitors Bureau at (904) 255-0415 or (800) 854-1234. Made famous as a spring hot spot by the movie "Where the Boys Are," Fort Lauderdale has since attracted colege students from all over were flocking to bask in the sun and meet the girl or guy of their dreams. In 1993, the city of Ft. Lauderdale began a revitalization of the beach after the city began cracking down on Spring Breakers who eventually decided to vacation in other cities. Like Daytona, Fort Lauderdale offers about 23 miles of beaches of clean yellow sand graced with palm trees and white-frothy water. Central along the beach strip is Fort Lauderdale Beach, with its crisp, new, wavy-walked promenade separating the beach from the low-rise lodgings, restaurants and beach shops. Other local cities including Hollywood with it's 6 miles of sparkling beachfront features sand dunes, a protected sea turtle hatchery and a 2.5 mile walkway called the "Broadwalk." Lauderdale-By-The-Sea has a pavilion and fishing pier; Pompano Beach has an oceanside children's playground, pavilion, barbecue grills, and picnic tables; and Deerfield Beach has a palm-edged promenade. The beaches in Tampa Bay feature soft white sand along 35 miles of the warm, calm Gulf waters which offers year-round swimming, boating and fishing. One of the best features of a gulf beach is the beautiful, breathtaking sunsets. Go To Page: 1 2
