Many people would snicker at the very thought of planning a vacation or weekend get-away cruising along the southern border of Lake Erie through Northern Ohio, because of the lake's sorted history. But, the natural beauty of this region would rival any lake region in North America.

To guide you through this area, a creative tour called the Lake Erie Circle Tour will help you plan an exciting, carefree vacation along the lake's shore. Also, there are signs throughout the 200-mile route to keep you on track from the west side through Toledo to the east side through Ashtabula County.

Lucas County

In the heart of Lucas County is the City of Toledo, which offers many fine restaurants and attractions for everyone. Among the most visited attractions include COSI - a fun hands-on science museum for all age; the Toledo Zoo - nationally-ranked; and the Toledo Museum of Art - internationally-ranked.

Ottawa County

Heading eastward, you will hit Ottawa County that features one of the few Lake Erie islands - Put-in-Bay. Visitors explore the islands by golf cart or bike, visiting the wineries, boutiques and Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. Back on the mainland, there is a picturesque Marblehead Lighthouse, Ohio's only federal nature preserve, quaint lakefront villages and a colorful arboretum.

Erie County

From mild to wild Erie County has it all. Challenge some of the world's wildest roller coasters at the world-renown Cedar Point Amusement Park. From there, visitors can shop nautical towns and country villages, marvel at natural geologic wonders, explore miles of trails and waterways, celebrate grape and orchard harvests or tour Thomas Edison's birthplace.

Lorain County

Historical Lorain County has much to offer from the quaint town of Vermilion and its historical district, Harbour Town dating back to1837. The county offers beautiful sunset viewing opportunities along the beaches of Lake Erie and at the "Jewel of the Port" lighthouse. Besides the tourist attractions, this area offers some of the best fishing in the Great Lakes region.

Cuyahoya County

The Greater Cleveland area has something to offer everyone, from the renowned Cleveland Orchestra and Cleveland Museum of Art to the splendor of the Playhouse Square Theatres. A trip to this area can offer you hands-on fun at science centers and museums, extraordinary shopping excursions, panoramic lunch and dinner sunset cruises along Lake Erie, or take you back in time to an Amish village.

Lake County

Lake County is home to two nationally renowned ecotourist attractions - the Holden Arboretum, the largest arboretum in the country with over 3,100 acres; and Lake Farmpark, which offers a family-oriented program to teach parents and children about our ecosystem.
