As my second articles in my three article series, I am featuring theme/roller coaster parks in the Northern America region and in Canada.
Next week, I will wrap up my series with a review of theme parks in the Northeastern and Southern regions of America. Northern America Big Chief Karts and Coasters - Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin Big Chief originated the multi-level go-kart track and has mastered the production of the most extreme go-kart tracks for over 22 years. Big Chief also boasts having 3 roller coasters: Over 90 feet tall, Zeus is a 90-foot-tall coaster that drops 85 feet, then hightails you with speeds of over 60 mph through a mammoth forest of towering structures; Cyclops is about 70 feet with a breathtaking 75-foot drop which whizzes you over and under a maze of go-kart tracks; and Pegasus is only 60 feet tall which also takes riders through two go-kart tracks. Located in central Wisconsin, one hour north of Madison, and may be reached at PO Box 5, Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin 53965; or call (608) 254-7858. Valleyfair Family Amusement Park - Shakopee, Minnesota As the area's largest amusement park, Valleyfair features something for the whole family with more than 75 exhilirating rides, shows, attractions and Whitewater Country Waterpark. In 1996, the park introduced Wild Thing, one of five "hyper coasters" in the world, which is more than one mile long, has a first hill of 207 feet and reaches speeds up to 74 mph. The coaster also features the longest low-gravity weightless zone of any coaster in the world. Other family attractions include the Berenstain Bear Country, Tot Town and Half Pint Park which offer a variety of rides and activities especially for young children. Valleyfair also offers an array of spectacular entertainment including an IMAX theater, a laser light and fireworks show, four musical reviews, the strolling beach band and two special musical shows in the amphitheater. Located 35 minutes southwest of the Twin Cities, information on Valleyfair is available by calling 1-800-FUN-RIDE (386-7433). Canada La Ronde - Montréal, Québec The park, located on an island in the St. Lawrence river in metropolitan Montréal, Quebec, features seven coasters besides other family attractions. Since the park is in Montréal, the predominant language is French, but the park offers some exciting rides with Le Boomerang, Le Cobra, Le Dragon, Le Monstre, Les Petites Montagnes Russes Le Super Manège To get a free brochure, contact the park at Administration Building, Montréal, Québec PQ H3C IA9, Canada; or call (514) 872-6120.
