Traditional Family Foods

The traditions of a family are important to the family members. It serves as a source of connection and familiarity that can provide an anchor in the turbulent times we live in. They are the real roots that make us feel secure.

During the holidays, take some time to ask about the traditions your family follows. Perhaps it involves some item brought over from your country of origin.

Food is always a tradition that gets passed down, specific recipies every year. My wife always makes a steamed pudding, using a recipe passed down from her grandmother, and packages some up for cousins in other states. Does your family stuff the turkey with corn bread stuffing or white bread? Oysters, perhaps? Is that cranberry relish great grandma's recipe? Or was it something that grandma found in a magazine?

The merging of families can lead to interesting combinations!
