Anyone wanting to build a snowman in these low-lying parts would be out of luck; snow is something that rarely happens in these parts. Only two hours inland from the coast, Hope has a temperate climate due to the warm, moist Pacific Ocean airstreams. Unlike the interior valleys, an hour or so east of the small town, Hope doesn't get too hot in the summertime. The Cordilleran mountain system separates the warm ocean air from the plains and as the moist air rises over the mountains, it cools and falls on the western slopes as heavy rain in lower altitudes and snow in the higher areas and mountains which surround Hope. Those interior valleys that are east of the community get much less precipitation, causing the sometimes scorching summers. Geological Features: The Fraser River is a major part of the geology of Hope. Between Lytton and Hope the river passes through the coast mountains where the famous Fraser Canyon can be found. The river enters a broad flood pain that goes some 130 km to the coast and eventually to Vancouver.
