(One may take the first puff when the ashtrays are on the table. If you take that puff before those ashtrays hit the smoking room, you can get booted off the train!) . . . . . We stopped at Sioux Lookout. I crossed over the road to call Jeff. It was nice to hear his voice. There was a another telephone available there (within dashing distance). The Sisters of Goodness (being the religious women with the hats for every part of the day) hogged that for the time we were in the station. What I saw of Sioux Lookout was the railway station, the small restaurant across the road, the hotel across the street. There was a trailer outside the station - a mobile veterinary clinic. I'll add some links to this small town soon. . . . . . Noon - up in the lookout car here. Rainy and dull but lakes rivers and stuff - French girl got off so that must have been Winnipeg. No - it wasn't. I've been gassing with Ben about Sci Fi, computers - he's from England. . . . . . 12:30 - Ena Lake Lots of cliffs, rocks where the railway cut through - it's post # 130 (obsessive - taking note of post numbers). When we passed post # 130, just feet from the sign that said, 'CN ENA Lake', I had my camera case closed, my money belt slung across my chest (diagonally) and was about to move down the coach 102 to get a blanket. It was colder in the observation bubble. Natalie, the snack/smoking car attendant, was dusting the close napped carpet with a sweeper that looked like something my 3 1/2-year-old granddaughter would play with. It was the perfect tool for the narrow passages and small spaces. The train was stopped on a bend, with pine and cedar on both sides. I was sure it was shorter now - maybe they took cars off. I was about to remark to the General area at large - that they must have taken cars off when I realized I was looking the wrong way - there are cars behind us, of course. I must have been turning my head looking out the rear window - led me to believe there was nothing behind me. I'm so glad I stood to get a better look or I would have missed the long line of cars behind me. That would have been the second time I'd make an ass of myself since I boarded in Toronto the previous morning. Go To Page: 1 2
