October 16th, 2003 - continued . . .
(I always think of those big rocks when I remember traveling in Northern Ontario - it was like that when we used to go up to Wilbermere Lake in the summers of my childhood). 12:10 pm - back at my seat. I think that was Georgian Bay we just passed. (Not really sure). Maybe - it's still wet out there. Not raining though. There's a lot burnt wood - and lots of colour. I wish Boop could see this. (That's Jeff - my better half who was not able to take this trip with me.) (Yes - I was still thinking of Jeff back there on the platform. I had one foot on it, just like in the old song.) One foot on the platform The other on the train I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain. Those were rail ties - that's why they're black. (I'm good at missing major points - silly girl) 12:15 - don't feel like having the turkey - my chocolate bar? 12:25 - 91 km from Barrie - read that on the highway sign. So many thoughts in my head. I'm comfortable now. I feel bad that Jeff's at home, but I must stay away from that thought. 1:00 pm - we're going through Parry Sound - the beginning of The Canadian Shield. The Lake? Horshoe? We once rented a cottage there - it was a weedy lake, as I recall - the nearest town was Parry Sound. 1:15 - Now I am going to get comfortable and read The Sweet Hereafter. (I did not read much, by the way. There was just too much going on about me at all times. And I never did read the Sweet Hereafter - I believe I left the book in the travel hostel at Victoria.) 5:30 pm - so the Capreol thing is over - I've switched seats with the lady across from me. The attendants idea. I couldn't put my seat back and wondered how I'd sleep. She and I decided to switch before Capreol - she was getting off there. The elderly couple behind were mad at Faizil (the train attendant) because they had asked to be moved before.
