Crossing Canada - Part VThursday, October 16th - continued I am still quoting from my written journal ... I'm in the smoking car and think I might stay awhile. This is a grand understatement - I just about lived in that car. Then I will munch the balance of my turkey dinner at my seat. Then I might take my nap. (I am to find out that sleeping in train seats isn't as easy as I thought it was going to be. I remembered doing it when I was a child, but I'm a little bit larger in physical size now and it's not so easy anymore) I was surprised - you CAN play cards in the common areas of the train now. The last time Jeff and I were on the train was the late eighties - you couldn't play cards in the bar, or at the snacking tables. Story idea? Maybe - a few story ideas here, I guess. An e-pal on the train? Boys going from one detox to another? Prisoners just outta' the joint? (The writer's mind was working) When the train stops I think I'll hop up to the dome and take a picture. It takes a while to feel comfortable. I need a wee ledger to record my expenses - I am so obsessive. I MIGHT buy a FIDO - and use it! From there. (Vancouver). Then present it to Christine for a present for her birthday before I go. (I did not do this) 10:30 a.m. No - I'm not 'comfortable' yet. 10:45 a.m. well, maybe - maybe I can get comfortable. I was talking with the young stuff here - nuts about me, of course. That's understandable when you consider my intelligence, beauty and modesty. Over to the other side of the book. Another thing about my obsessiveness - I always write down the right side of my journals, then turn the book over and continue to write down the right side. 10:45 a.m. Think I'll take the corner seat next time. (In the smoking car - I liked it there; it kept you out of the way of the traffic through the car - it was also a good place to curl up and doze off.) 10:50 a.m. we're having a laugh here - the boys have a cell phone - they're going to charge 5 bucks a minute to use it. Ha ha! You could make a living doing that, I say. More grounds for a short story, I'm sure. About a guy charging to use his phone.
