Well now - that’s about two miles I’ve travelled –only 2,748 of the 2,750 to go.

Everyone in this car looks pooped right out. Not all of us are starting the cross-country trip from here in Toronto, of course. Some of my fellow passengers have been here in the city for a stopover, or have transferred from another train. So everybody’s got an excuse for being a bit flogged.

I have an excellent excuse - we had to walk all the way to the front of the train. Penalized for going the cheap way? No - not really. It's just that the first class coaches are near the back - sleepers, dining car, etc. I think there were something like 16 cars on the train, all told. The engine car, a dining room for the snack bar, the smoking car, and above that, the observation deck. Behind that are the sleeping cars, berths & rooms, the dining room car, etc. At first, I thought it was a 'class' thing - figured they didn't want us cheapies trailing through first class, but that wasn't so. When I was up there using the dining car on the way home, I realized how awkward it would have been to board at the other end. There isn't much space to walk between the windows and the small rooms. Either way, it's awkward. Help is, of course, provided for those who have a hard time with walking. Some of the stations have carts and they drive you up to your coach.

I, of course, had the aforesaid Beast of Burden with me.

I have chosen economy - it is possible to get first class (about 3 times as much), but either way, there are pros and cons.

This one is also going to be changed somewhat - it will be shorter.

More on this a couple of days later.
