Also, there are a couple of e-pals who live in Victoria; we’re looking forward to meeting each other in the flesh, so to speak.

So why the train? Why not a plane, or a car, or a bus, you might ask. And I know you will; just about everyone I know asked that.

My father and his father before him, worked throughout their adult lives for the Canadian National Railway. Employees of the railway, their spouses and children under eighteen ride the trains for free. It is for this that I hold childhood memories of travelling on the train.

I guess that explains why it is that whenever I’ve pictured myself going out west, the image has been of me sitting by the window of a train, watching the scenery go by as the wheels rumble beneath me.

So now I’m all ready to go. This time I’m leaving Toronto, travelling all the way out to Vancouver.

Westward Bound!
