Toronto Cat Rescue - Toronto, Ontario

It's our fourteenth wedding anniversary. yesterday I rode my bike up to Bloor Street to visit Pet Value. I heard they sometimes had kittens on display in there and I was aiming to bring one home as a surprise anniversary gift for Jeff.

Our cat, Bobby McGee, died over a couple of years ago and I wasn't ready to replace her until now.

It wasn't as easy as I thought. Pet Value at Bloor and Indian Road doesn't actually sell cats - they put them on display in their store. The customer must apply to Toronto Cat Rescue.

About Toronto Cat Rescue

It's a no-kill, all volunteer foster home network dedicated to helping abandoned and rescued cats and kittens to find homes.

I came home and phoned, left a message. Later on somebody called and asked questions pertaining to just what kind of animal owners Jeff and I would be. I gave her the information and she told me I'd be hearing from Melanie who would arrange to meet us up at the store to put the adoption through.

We went out for dinner at Joe Mercury's (corner of Dundas West & Bloor). We got out of Victor's car, Jeff carrying the empty cat case. We crossed at the corner, where people were standing in clusters, upset as emergency vehicles jockeyed for position. I do not look - I just don't want to know, I don't want to see.

We took a seat on the patio and watched as the police settled details with a young blond man. I guess he was the one who hit the unfortunate pedestrian and may all the gods bless them both.

Jeff ordered the club sandwich and I, as always, ordered the half chicken.

The rain drizzled and umbrellas were raised, as we watched a slice of humanity making their crossings at the four corners.

We were finished our meal well over an hour before we had the appointment with Melanie down the street.

Jeff and I discussed the 'what-ifs' and tried to figure what we'd do if we were turned down. We didn't really know how strict it would be - we were prepared for Melanie to say - nope! You're not the right folks!

We spent the next hour doing a little shopping, having another coffee across the road from the pet store, then finally Melanie turned up. It went quite well. We filled out the forms, which indicated our agreement to take the cat for spading and rabies shots at the required time.
