Our lives are filled with lists. Shopping lists, grocery lists, back-to-school-supplies lists, and to-do lists at work and at home.
There are books of lists for fans of television, teaching, medicine, parents, the Marine Corps, and Davy Crockett. There is the Top Ten list of just about anything, popularized by David Letterman. And, there are lists of Websites for fundraisers. Three authors have created a virtual encyclopedia of knowledge designed to eliminate waste and inefficiency in your search for what works in the areas of e-commerce, grantseeking, fundraising, managing nonprofits, and prospect research. Their works may well be the largest compilation of such lists specific to nonprofits—1,500 Websites on five compact disks. The number 1,500 sounds like a lot, even though there are millions of Websites on just about any topic. Each author has narrowed the choices to 300, as though the authors were together in a room and decided that 300 was an achievable level before brain damage sets in. Here is a brief look at what is included on the disks: Top 300 E-Commerce Websites for Nonprofit Organizations, by Gary Grobman. Topics include developing an e-commerce program, online shopping malls, site development software, click-to-give sites, and merchant service sites. Grobman is also the author of the book, The Nonprofit Organization’s Guide to E-Commerce. Top 300 Websites for Fundraisers, by Marilyn Gross. Topics include capital and annual campaigns, online fundraising and discussions, corporate giving, proposal writing, foundations, international grantseeking, and grant resources and funding.
