Reznor's New Single Slated to Hit Stores July 20th

July 20th is D-Day for fans of Nine Inch Nails. They might not be camping out overnight to hit the music stores like the loyal Star Wars fanatics did recently to see the latest SW installment, but if you can believe what you read here online, great rowdy, jubilant numbers of them will be skipping out on school or work that day to be among the first to snag Trent Reznor's new single "The Day the World Went Away."

College radio stations are already playing the promo vinyl, as across the vast banner-strewn recesses of the internet, NIN addicts have eagerly been downloading the MP3 versions with feverish fannish frenzy. Illegal you say? Since when has that ever stopped anything from proliferating wildly on the net when it's in great demand? In addition to TDTWWA, the single will contain the song titled "Starfuckers, Inc." Is it or isn't it about former Reznor bud and musical protege Marilyn Manson, who rose to controversial fame on Trent's "Nothing" label? Only the lyricist knows for sure...;)

The NIN camp has been feeding the coming frenzy with teaser material for the past several weeks, on their popular new official site dedicated to the upcoming, and long-awaited album, "The Fragile." Snippets of sound samples, digital pictures, and even a continuing online journal, written by a mysterious person privy to the day to day madness that goes along with putting out a quality CD, are among the many things that have popped up on http://www.nin.com recently. Check it out, but be warned...as you'd expect from a site dedicated to a technological wizard, it employs some of the more modern devices in its production. If your computer system is old and won't handle shockwave, etc., without protest, you're probably not going to be able to see much there. Don't despair though. You can always go to alt.music.nin or the NIN folder on AOL and drool over the descriptions that others post...;)

According to nin.com's journal, auditions are already underway for musicians for the tour that is planned following the release of the double-album later this fall. Reznor himself has said in a recent published interview that he doesn't expect the tour to be as extensive as the last one but no venues have been announced yet. When they are everybody better stand back. What's that thundering, predominantly black clad mass moving towards us trailing a cloud of dust large enough to alarm the EPA? Why it's Ninnies of course...heading for the Ticketmaster location near you!
