Last year, I spoke to Trevor Reekie about his musical project with Tom Ludvigson, A Trip To The Moon. Trevor runs the Pagan/Antenna label and until very recently was also a guitarist in the Greg Johnson Band.

Recently, to catch up with what A Trip To The Moon have been up to, I spoke to Tom Ludvigson. He gave me the low-down on their upcoming new single, "I Can Change," which features Bobbylon (ex Hallelujah Picassos) on vocals. The song has already received substantial airplay on bFM through advanced play listings and this obviously bodes well for the single's release and the duo's upcoming album. Tom, who is also a part of jazz groups such as Inner City Jazz Workshop and Bluespeak, which includes Greg Johnson, also spoke about the soon to be released Bluespeak album.

To get things rolling then, here's what Tom said.

The single "I Can Change" features Bobbylon on vocals. How did you and Trevor come to work with him?

"It was largely Trevor's doing. We wanted to work with a vocalist, and Trevor said, 'oh well I know someone that I might ask', so I said 'let's see what happens' and that's how it came about."

What other vocalists have you been working with?

"We've got Tuffy Culture and Dubhead on one of the tracks we've been lining up for our next album, so that's another two. And I guess some of Andrew Dixon's flute playing has been mixed with vocalisations too and that's on another track that's been sitting in the wings also."

As on Jazz Hop, do you have Greg Johnson and Peter Scott on the album again?

"We do have both of them on the album again, yes that's right."

Is it still the plan to release the new album in October?

"We're not sure now- we're trying to do one thing at a time and because we're heading into the single at the moment, I think the final decision on the scheduling of the album partly has to do with how that works out. As for the title, we've talked about The Two Twenty Man, but again because we haven't quite finalised it, we're leaving things up in the air, but that's the initial plan."

The last album was called Jazz Hop, and this seemed to apply to what you sounded like, but is that still an accurate description of Trip To the Moon's sound?

"I'm not sure it was accurate description even then (laughs.) I guess because we're now doing more things with vocalists, I guess that's changed the way people would classify the music as it were. Basically it's the same recipe- it's beats with a kind of a jazzy angle to it."
