Venturing across the Australian continent to Perth for a Neil Finn concert was not exactly what I had in mind when I left New Zealand for a holiday to Queensland's Gold Coast. I did know, however, that Neil would be playing in nearby Brisbane during my stay- but I also knew I was taking my chances for tickets, having not booked ahead. And, sure enough as my luck would have it, tickets were sold out!
Finding this out however, would not be that much of a problem as there were more dates scheduled for Australia, and I had seen a concert in New Zealand. The problem would in fact lie in which concert to go to and how to get there. Looking at the schedule for dates I saw that there were concerts taking place at most other Australian state capital cities during my stay. And though places like Sydney and Melbourne are a lot closer to Queensland than Perth, I thought that since my holiday accommodation was booked in Surfer's until July 10, the Perth show would be my best option as it was taking place the next day. Now with concert tickets booked, the problem then arose of how to travel to Perth, and flying would turn out to be the best option with such vast distances involved. Of course, you'd think that the most logical course of action would be to fly to Perth from Brisbane and then fly back to Auckland, but strangely enough it actually worked out cheaper and easier to return home and only then fly over! With all travel hassles finally conquered on the night of July 11, I was happy to be part of the audience who welcomed Neil to a crowded house, at His Majesty's Theatre in Perth.
